Orthodontic treatment completed in one stage and includes the correction of misaligned teeth and malocclusion (incorrect bite). Orthodontic treatment emphasizes on achieving harmony between facial esthetics, alignment of teeth, and a proper bite. This can be achieved with traditional braces, clear plastic aligners, functional appliances, or a combination of these methods.
Orthodontic metal or ceramic brackets that are bonded to the teeth and engaged with an orthodontic wire. These active wires engaged in the brackets with the manipulation of the Orthodontist will express angulations to gradually move teeth into their proper position and correct malocclusions.
FDA approved clear aligners that are made of patented flexible plastic which are customized to each patient to correct misaligned teeth. This process is fully digital and completed with digital scanners.
Treatment that requires advanced education which involves the guidance of facial growth and development. This is often achieved with the use of functional appliances and application of forces which will guide the growth of the jaws and the face. This process is also known as growth modification.
Also called surgical orthodontics, orthognathic surgery is corrective jaw surgery performed along with an Oral Surgeon to remedy skeletal problems that affect the ability to bite, chew and speak, and addresses other malformations. Orthodontic treatment is done before and after surgery so that upper and lower teeth meet appropriately.
Phase I or Early Interceptive Treatment
Orthodontic treatment performed to intercept or correct a developing problem. Usually addresses a specific problem, which if not addressed at the appropriate age can develop into a malocclusion… or malformation which can be difficult to correct at a later age. It is performed on younger patients that have a mixture of primary (baby) teeth and permanent teeth. The orthodontist takes advantage of the patient’s young age to allow growth modification when warranted. Phase II Orthodontic treatment is often needed as a second phase to align all remaining permanent that were not erupted during Phase I treatment
